“Yeah, but your dogs aren’t really your kids.”
(Don’t tell that to the giant baby of mine who insists I hold him like a baby even if he is 90+ lbs)
The amount of times I hear that (without actually asking if someone thinks my dogs are equivalent to kids) is astounding. Obviously, I didn’t birth these dogs from my own womb- being a birth mother in no way or form gives you the right to be a mom to something- I just love them more than anything in the world. I don’t have kids and I think that’s how people get away with feeling superior to me in their own sad little way. Let’s stop shaming women. Love women (and all people) for all that the are!
Anyway, I choose to refer to myself as a “dog mom” which is kind of a millennial thing and I’m proud. I care for these babies and love them daily. Trust me when I say that I have gone above and beyond for these creatures. 🐶
Here is how I know I’m a dog mom…
You know you’re a dog mom when:
You wake up to slobbery kisses begging for food or to go outside.
You have family pictures with your dogs
You have said pictures hung proudly
around your home
Your hobbies revolve around your dog (hello Instagram)
You say weird things you never thoughts you’d say like “don’t eat poop” or “stop humping your sister”
You dog may have a larger closet than your self – yes, there is collars/accessories but don’t forget how big food storage and kennels might be.
You have said no to plans because you have to take care of your dog.
“Taking care” of your dog really meant cuddle in those situations.
You take their collar off and say “NAKEY!”
You spend a lot of time picking out the perfect name for your pup and then call it by a million different nicknames instead.
No outfit is complete without a little dog hair or slobber
Would rather go to the pet store than actual grocery shopping
You can’t eat, sleep, or poop in peace
Dogs have changed your life
You have at least one dog mom accessory!
The list goes on and on…
What are some of the things you can think of that makes you a dog mom??
