Our first spot we are sharing is our new favorite spot.
Port Washington State Forest in Santa Rosa Beach, FL is beautiful, peaceful, and the full nature experience you need. It’s got paved and unpaved hiking areas. It is close to our favorite dog friendly restaurant (we are biased, our dog dad works here! <The Perfect Pig at Watercolor; we are working on our post for this>) it’s tucked into all the hustle and bustle around the area but you’ll feel right with nature in this beautiful forest.
The Eastern Lake Trail consists of three double-track loop trails where you can hike, ride, or run 3.5, 5, or 10 mile loops. These are accessible through the trailhead on County Road 395.
If you’re like us, and prefer a more “off the beaten path” experience, you can enter at any of their public access points. We hit up the entrance off County Road 395 near the trailhead parking lot entrance when on our bike or we drive in the public access points until we find a spot we want to pull off to the side to explore. We found a perfect spot to put up the hammock for some relaxation just before sunset.
There are more trails being created, camping opportunities, and comes with a few rules. Please be sure you’re following all the rules set in place to keep yourself, your family, and the forest safe. You can find more information on all of this HERE.
